China External Debt Q3 2025: Stability Analysis

BEIJING, Dec. 31, 2025 (Xinhua) – China’s total external debt reached 2.37 trillion US dollars at the end of September, indicating a general stability in external debt during the third quarter of 2025, according to data issued by the country’s foreign exchange regulatory authority today (Wednesday).

Li Bin, Vice Chairman of the National Foreign Exchange Commission, said that the volume of external debt decreased slightly, with the currency structure of external debt generally stabilizing and the maturity structure improving.

At the end of September, external debt denominated in local currency constituted 51.9 percent of total external debt, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the end of June.

Regarding the maturity structure, medium-term and long-term external debt represented 42.5 percent of the total, an increase of 0.1 percentage points since the end of June. /end of news/
