The 19th Civil Court of Santiago issued a precautionary preliminary measure that orders the blocking throughout the Chilean territory of the streaming and IPTV services MagisTV, FlujoTV and XuperTVplatforms accused of distributing content without authorization from their rights holders.
The action was requested by Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. within the framework of the protection of its intellectual property, and after the resolution the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) instructed all Internet providers in the country to apply technical blocks within a maximum period of five business days, starting on January 29, when the lawsuit was filed.
The order requires prevent the access and operation of these applications both at the network level and on devices such as decoders or set-top boxesin addition to remove all its versions from digital stores such as Google Play and App Store and suspend associated developer accounts.
In addition, telecommunications operators will have five days to block the IP addresses associated with these services. The lock should display the warning “Website blocked for violation of intellectual property laws” and extend to any related domain, subdomain, link, redirect or mirror site, as well as any content that shares those same IPseven if it is legal material.
The letter was sent to practically all ISPs and telecommunications companies operating in Chile, from large operators to regional providers, which points to a coordinated application on a national scale.
These services operate under the IPTV model, offering pay television signals, movies and sporting events at low prices or through informal subscriptions, and The audiovisual industry maintains that they operate without licenses, generating million-dollar losses due to piracy.
These types of measures, which combine the removal of applications with massive blocking by Internet providers, have become increasingly common in Latin America to limit the distribution of illegal content, although specialists warn that their effectiveness may be reduced because these platforms usually reappear under new addresses or using evasion tools. For now, The judicial resolution marks one of the most extensive coordinated blocking operations against IPTV services in Chile.
