Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The atmosphere of a child’s birthday party in Stockton, California, United States turned into a tragedy after a mass shooting occurred which killed at least four people. The incident took place at a restaurant on Saturday (30/11/2025) evening local time.
According to police information, the victims who died consisted of adults and children. Ten other people were injured, but their conditions have not been officially announced.
Authorities said the shooting occurred at around 18.00 local time. The perpetrator is still at large, while the police suspect this incident was a targeted attack. San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heather Brent called the incident unthinkable and emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing.
“This is a very active investigation. Initial indications show that this is most likely a targeted incident,” he said as quoted by BBC International, Sunday (30/11/2025).

The Mayor of Stockton, Christina Fugazi, strongly condemned the tragedy. “This is unacceptable. Families should be enjoying time together, not being in hospital waiting to hear whether their loved one is safe,” he said.
California is known for having strict firearms regulations. However, in recent years, this rule has been challenged by law.
In 2021, the ban on ownership of assault weapons such as AR-15s was overturned by a federal judge. A year later, the US Supreme Court expanded the right to bear arms, raising concerns about the effectiveness of gun regulations in the state.
Until now, the police continue to collect evidence and appeal to residents who have related recordings or information to report it. The tragedy at this child’s birthday party once again highlights the rise in gun violence in the United States, even in spaces that should be safe for families.
