Chiapas is grappling with a concerning decline in childhood vaccination rates, prompting a renewed call to action from health officials. With only 69% of children under six fully vaccinated by the end of 2024, the state is facing a potential surge in preventable diseases. This situation underscores the critical need for improved public health strategies and increased parental awareness.
Health Secretary Urges Parents to Prioritize Immunization
Omar Gómez Cruz, the Secretary of Health in the New Age, is spearheading efforts to address this critical issue. He is imploring parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the complete series of recommended vaccines. These vaccines are essential for safeguarding against potentially life-threatening illnesses such as measles, rubella, mumps, and diphtheria, which can have devastating consequences, especially for young children.

Thorough Vaccination Programs: Protecting Mothers and Children
The state’s vaccination program extends beyond childhood immunizations. Expectant mothers are also a key focus, with the Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) being administered to protect both the mother and the newborn from whooping cough. Furthermore, the BCG vaccine remains a crucial component of the program, preventing meningeal tuberculosis in children under five.

- 310 SR vaccines
- 893 HPV vaccines

- 18,256 Hexavalente vaccines
- 13,785 COVID-19 vaccines
- 60,511 Influenza vaccines
