The United States Department of Justice reported that a woman was sentenced to three years in prison for a “hate crime” against a Venezuelan family in Chicago.
According to the note on her website, the events occurred in March 2024, when Ana Hernández threw a glass bottle with oil and a towel – a Molotov cocktail – into the parking lot of her neighbors in the American city.
“The device caused a fire, but no one was injured,” he said. “The woman admitted in a plea agreement that she threw the device because the victims who lived there were Venezuelans and she wanted to convince them to leave the home.”
In addition, he left a note on the neighbors’ car: “We don’t want you in the neighborhood. Go back to your country. “They can take the easy or difficult path.”
The 70-year-old woman pleaded guilty and U.S. District Judge Lindsay Jenkins sentenced her to two years and nine months in federal prison.
