Think it was cold in the Chicago area this morning? THE NORTHERN WISCONSIN TEMPS were “off the charts” cold–the coldest in North Woods Rhinelander, WI (with its 38-below morning low temp) in nearly 30 years, reports the National Weather Service Green Bay office, which includes Rhinelander in its “CWA” (i.e. county warning area).
The coldest minimum temps I found reported Saturday morning across northern Wisconsin included 42-below at Knight, WI–400 miles northwest of Chicago in Iron County and 40-below was at Smith Rapids, WI in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest of Price County.
