Chennai: The Chennai High Court dismissed the petition filed by Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai seeking to quash the case of defaming minorities.
Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai in an interview to YouTube channel “Pesu Tamila Besu” in October last year said that a case has been filed in the Supreme Court with the help of Christian missionaries to prevent crackers from bursting on Diwali with the aim of destroying Hindu religious culture.
Summons
Piyush Manush, a social activist from Salem, had filed an individual complaint against Annamalai in the Salem Criminal Arbitration Court. The Salem court heard this petition and issued a summons to Annamalai to appear in person for the hearing.
Petition dismissed
Accordingly, he should be exempted from appearing in court. Annamalai had filed a petition in the Madras High Court with the demands that the case should be completely quashed.
Lower Court
The High Court Judge N. Anand Venkatesh, who heard the case, refused to quash the case and dismissed Annamalai’s petition. He also said that the lower court can consider the case against Annamalai in accordance with the law.
