ChatGPT & Apple Health: AI Chatbot Integration

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new feature specifically aimed at health topics, working closely with Apple Health. The announcement was made in early January 2026 and marks an important step in the use of artificial intelligence for personal health issues.

Quickread: At a glance

  • ChatGPT Health is a separate health section with Apple Health integration and advanced privacy features.
  • The function can analyze movement, sleep and activity data and evaluate medical documents – but does not replace medical advice.
  • The launch will take place on a waiting list, initially outside the EU, Switzerland and UK, with full rollout in the coming weeks.

ChatGPT Health as a separate area

ChatGPT Health is designed as a standalone area within ChatGPT that functions completely separately from normal ChatGPT usage. Users can ask health-related questions there and receive answers that are tailored to their personal health data. However, OpenAI expressly emphasizes that ChatGPT Health does not diagnose or recommend treatments and in no way replaces visits to medical professionals.

Integration with Apple Health allows ChatGPT to access various health and fitness data. This includes movement patterns, sleep patterns and activity data stored in the Health app on iPhone. The connection to Apple Health was already noticed in December 2025 through hidden image files in the ChatGPT app before it was officially announced.

Extensive integration options

In addition to Apple Health, ChatGPT Health can also be connected to other health services. These include MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, AllTrails, Instacart, Peloton and Function. A particularly interesting function is the ability to integrate medical documents. ChatGPT Health can analyze laboratory results and consider other aspects of medical history to provide informed answers to health-related questions.

Apple Health is the pre-installed health app on iPhone that centrally collects and manages fitness and health data. The app collects data from the Apple Watch, the iPhone itself and numerous third-party apps such as fitness trackers or nutrition apps. Users can view and manage their steps, heart rate, sleep patterns, training sessions and much other health information.

This variety of integrations is intended to help you better understand test results or prepare for upcoming medical appointments. OpenAI says 230 million users are already asking health-related questions to ChatGPT per week, highlighting the need for a specialized space.

Data protection and security in focus

Health data is some of the most sensitive personal information, which is why OpenAI has implemented multiple layers of security. ChatGPT Health works with multiple encryption and functions as a separate section with advanced privacy features. By default, ChatGPT Health data is not used to train the basic ChatGPT models.

When users start health-related conversations in the general ChatGPT area, they will receive suggestions to move the conversation to the Health area. This is intended to ensure that sensitive health information remains protected.

Availability and restrictions

ChatGPT Health will initially launch with a waiting list for beta users. Access is available to people with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro accounts located outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Medical records integration and some apps are currently only available in the United States.

In the coming weeks, ChatGPT Health will be rolled out to all users on the web and iOS. The feature is accessible through both the mobile app and the website. To connect to Apple Health, you must sign in with your Apple Account.

More Apple integrations at ChatGPT

The collaboration between OpenAI and Apple is not just limited to the healthcare sector. In December 2025, OpenAI also announced an integration with Apple Music, which went live shortly thereafter. Users can use ChatGPT to search for songs, artists, albums and playlists in the Apple Music catalog.

Apple Music subscribers can add songs, albums and playlists to their library via ChatGPT. The playlists and suggestions generated by ChatGPT can be opened directly in Apple Music. However, ChatGPT does not have read access to personal listening history or existing playlists – the privacy of the user is preserved.
