The History and Current State of Oversight Boards
Eight years ago, activist and lawyer Jeff Fogel, among other local advocates, championed the establishment of a Police Civilian Oversight Board in Charlottesville, Virginia. Modeled after similar boards in other cities, the goal was to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement by providing a transparent and accountable mechanism for reviewing police misconduct.
