Change Gmail Address: Keep Your Data | Google Tips

by drbyos

“totodu53etudu75@gmail.com” will soon be a bad memory? Google now allows you to change your Gmail email address, which may have become shameful for some over the years. This change will, however, allow you to continue to receive emails intended for the previous address. Here’s how to do it.

Google quietly announced this change with the launch of a dedicated support page, “Change your Google account email address”. The platform warns, however, that the “possibility of modifying the e-mail address (…) is gradually being deployed for all users”.

How to change your email address? On your computer or on your phone, go to the log in page if necessary. Select “Personal information,” then “Email address” and “Google account email address.” If the feature is available, then you can click on “Change Google Account Email Address” and choose your new address. If it is not, then it will be possible later and you will have to come back.

Be careful, however, warns Google on its support page. Changing your Gmail address is not without consequences. While emails sent to the old address will continue to arrive in your inbox – and you will also be able to continue using it to send emails – you may have issues if you use a Chromebook or connect to certain sites through Google. “We also recommend that you back up your data as a precaution,” warns the platform. Additionally, some settings in your apps may be reset. »

Changing your email address remains subject to rules. You will only be able to change your email address once every 12 months and up to three times in total. Do you regret changing your email address? You can return to your original Gmail address at any time.
