Actor and singer Cha Eun-woo, who is suspected of tax evasion worth tens of billions of won, posted a statement on the 26th and said, “I sincerely bow my head in apology,” and “I will faithfully participate in future tax-related procedures.” He also said, “Based on the final judgment made by the relevant organizations, I will accept the results and fulfill my responsibilities accordingly.”

Cha Eun-woo posted this on Instagram on this day. When reports emerged that Cha Eun-woo had recently received a notice from the National Tax Service to collect more than 20 billion won in income tax, his agency Fantagio issued a statement on the 22nd saying, “This is not a matter that has been finalized and notified.” This is the first time that Cha Eun-woo has directly expressed his position.

Cha Eun-woo, who enlisted in July of last year and is currently serving in the army, said, “I am writing this after finishing my daily work in the unit,” and added, “I am serving in the military, but it was by no means an intentional choice to avoid this controversy.” He also wrote, “Last year, I was in a situation where I could no longer postpone my military enlistment, so I enlisted without completing the tax audit process. This was also a misunderstanding caused by my shortcomings, so I deeply feel responsibility.”

Cha Eun-woo said, “Recently, I have caused concern and disappointment to many people due to various events related to me. Taking this incident as an opportunity, I am deeply reflecting on whether my attitude toward tax payment obligations as a citizen was sufficiently strict.” He said, “For a few days, I spent some time reflecting and thinking about what I should say first to convey at least a little bit of my apology to those who were hurt by me. I was worried that it might sound like an excuse or make them feel tired, but I came to the conclusion that it would be right to say it directly and apologize.”

Cha Eun-woo said, “If I were not a soldier, I would like to visit each and every person who would have been harmed by this incident and bow my head in apology.” He also said, “I may not be able to repay many people, but I feel indescribably sorry for causing great pain and fatigue.” He also said, “From now on, I will look at myself more strictly and live with a greater sense of responsibility in repaying the love I have received.”
