This railway exemplifies practical cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which continues to yield tangible results in connectivity, energy capacity, and clean infrastructure.
In Kazakhstan, crude oil and natural gas pipelines between China and Kazakhstan, along with the Shymkent oil refinery, are operational. Uzbekistan has commissioned the 1,500 MW gas plant project in the Syrdarya region, and the Olympic city project is progressing. Tadjikistan is actively implementing cooperation projects, including government buildings, parliament offices, and key sections of phase II of the China-Tadjikistan motorway.According to the China National Petroleum Corporation, by March 2025, natural gas exchanges between Turkmenistan and China via the Central China-Asie pipeline reached 430 billion cubic meters.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, trade between China and the five countries in Central Asia exceeded $94.8 billion in 2024, an increase of $5.4 billion compared to 2023. Chinese investments in Central Asia have grown, notably in green energy and agricultural transformation.
