Catherine (Ciss) Hawkins: A Life Remembered

On a day filled with peace and reflection, Catherine (Ciss) Hawkins, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully at Bantry General Hospital, upheld by the compassionate care of the hospital staff, nurses, and doctors. Surrounded by her adoring family, Catherine bid farewell to this world, comforting her husband Timothy (Ted), her children June (O’Regan), Joe, and Terry, and her vast extended family and friends.

Her Cherished Legacy

Catherine, born Hawkins, was born in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, but spent much of her life in London. Her family later settled in Castletownshend. Throughout her life, Catherine was not only a devoted mother but also a loving wife and a respected member of her community. Her kindness and nurturing spirit touched the lives of many, from her nine grandchildren to her siblings and nephews.

Apart from her immediate family, Catherine was known for her relationships with her brother, sisters, and in-laws, Anne, Bernie, and Timjoe, and her dear friends. Her everyday life was full of warmth and care, as she was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. Caring for Patricia and Ger (Carey) as their nanny, Catherine’s love extended beyond family to the children she nurtured and supported.

Gathering to Remember

The extended family, neighbors, and friends of Catherine will gather on Sunday, February 2nd, at Shanahan’s Funeral Home in Leap, to pay their respects. Family and friends are invited from 4pm to 6pm. On Monday, February 3rd, at 1:45pm, the funeral cortege will arrive at St. Barrahane’s Church in Castlehaven. A Requiem Mass will follow at 2:30pm and will be live-streamed. Although she is gone, her memory lives on as her community gathers to say goodbye and pay tribute to her life.

Follow the funeral to Castlehaven New Cemetery, where Catherine’s life story will be told among her final resting place. The family has requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Palliative Care at Bantry General Hospital, where Catherine received much-needed care during her final days.
