Revitalizing Catarroja: A Look at the Infrastructure Improvements
Catarroja is experiencing a significant revitalization following a substantial investment aimed at repairing and upgrading key infrastructure. The Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility has allocated €100,000 to restore the underpass beneath the train tracks on Pelayo Street, a crucial artery connecting the town and providing access to Albal. This vital passage has been operational as last Tuesday, marking a significant step forward in the town’s recovery.

Government Commitment to Reconstruction
Pilar Bernabé,the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, recently toured the project site alongside Lorena Silvent, the Mayor of Catarroja. Bernabé emphasized the Spanish government’s dedication to Catarroja’s reconstruction, highlighting a total investment exceeding €210 million. A significant portion, €138 million, is specifically earmarked for the comprehensive repair and reconstruction of essential municipal facilities and services.

Additional Infrastructure Enhancements
Beyond the Pelayo Street underpass, improvements have also been made to the East Round, near Calvario Street, and the pedestrian underpass adjacent to the train station, both of which are now operational. Furthermore, work is underway on the pedestrian-cyclist bridge over the Poyo ravine, connecting Massanassa and Catarroja. This bridge, which required demolition, is currently in the stirrup construction phase, paving the way for the installation of a new structure.
Comprehensive restoration Efforts
The restoration efforts extend beyond structural repairs. Extensive cleaning operations have been conducted to remove debris, sludge, and other remnants left in the wake of the DANA. This includes clearing drains and grates, repairing or replacing pumping, signaling, and lighting systems, and reconstructing curbs, sidewalks, railings, and handrails. The sides and upper sections of walls have been adapted and painted, and road surfaces have been resurfaced.
Looking Ahead: Sustainable Mobility and Community Resilience
These infrastructure improvements are not only restoring essential services but also enhancing sustainable mobility and community resilience in Catarroja. By investing in pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure, the town is promoting eco-kind transportation options and creating a more livable environment for its residents. The comprehensive approach to restoration, addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability, demonstrates a commitment to building a stronger, more resilient Catarroja for the future.
