An earthquake shook the Catania and Etna area shortly after 7.05 am today. The earthquake was clearly felt by the population also in various areas near Etna and from Messina to Augusta. In addition to Catania, the municipalities where the event was most widespread are Biancavilla, Adrano, Belpasso and Paternò.
The magnitude was 4.5 according to the INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology). The epicenter was located 3 kilometers from Ragalna at a depth of 4 kilometers, about twenty kilometers north-west of Catania.
Schools closed in Catania
