Cash in Wallet: Financial Advantage?

by Archynetys Economy Desk

Even in the era of bank card payments, it’s worth keeping cash with us in case of an emergency: let’s see how much is recommended, where and how to store it!

Cash will continue to play an important role in everyday life in 2026, even if there are more and more card and digital payment options. If our phone dies, the payment terminal doesn’t work, or the store only accepts cash, we can easily find ourselves in an unpleasant situation. That’s why it’s worth always keeping a small amount with you in case of an emergency.

You should have this amount of cash with you: put it here!

However, it is important not to keep the safety cash reserve in the same place as other cash, because this way we can easily spend it without thinking. It can be a practical solution if

fold the banknote lengthwise and place it in a less visible compartment of the wallet, such as a card holder.

How much is recommended? During daytime transportation, even a few thousand forints can be enough for a bus ticket or a shorter trip. On the other hand, at night, when there is no public transport, it is worth setting aside even 10-20 thousand forints in case of an emergency. If the amount is used, it is important to replace it as soon as possible.

It’s not necessarily worth keeping an emergency fund in your wallet – if you lose it or it’s stolen, the reserve will also disappear. An alternative option is, for example, a phone caseas many people now carry their mobile phones with them more often than their wallets. The point is that the money is always at hand, we know where we keep it, and don’t mix it with the amount intended for everyday spending.

A bank card does not guarantee security either

Contactless payment is convenient, but it also has a lesser-known risk: so-called in bank cards and some documents RFID-chip located which allows the terminal to read data without physical contact. However, with the help of special tools

unauthorized persons may also be able to initiate a small transaction from a short distance without us immediately noticing.

In particular, in crowded places, on public transport or at large events, it may happen that someone tries to abuse this opportunity. They offer a solution for this RFID blocking wallets or card protection cases: these contain a special protective layer that prevents the card’s radio signal from reaching unauthorized devices. Thus, the card only communicates with the terminal when we really want to pay.

So the point is: it’s not enough to just keep a cash reserve for an emergency, it’s also worth paying attention to digital security. A wallet with RFID protection can be a simple but effective extra protection in everyday life.
