Carola Bridge Opening: Public Viewing Details

Dresden. The timetable for the new Carola Bridge is clearly timed: Since December, four planning offices, some of which operate internationally, have been working on their design for a new Carola Bridge. The finished designs will be presented on May 26th, which can then be exhibited and evaluated.

Before that, a two-part dialogue evening with the planners and the administration will take place on Wednesday (March 18th).

Mini fair for the bridge in the city forum

From 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. an “open dialogue” with the four planning offices commissioned by the council is possible in the new city forum on Waisenhausstrasse.

The focus is on questions about the quality of stay, design, materials and the integration of the bridge into the urban space. Citizens can get to know the planning offices and talk to them about initial design approaches and urban planning considerations.

Each planning office presents materials or approaches individually. There will be no finished bridge designs yet. However, the offices are free to comment on specific aspects.

The event will take place in such a way that all planners and the city will present themselves with their own stands in the city forum. Those interested can go from stand to stand, like at a mini trade fair.

Evening event with livestream

A moderated evening event will also take place in the city forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On the podium, all four planning offices present their planning philosophies and provide an overview of central topics from the previous citizen dialogue. Construction mayor Stephan Kühn (Greens) and the new project manager for the new construction of the Carola Bridge, Grit Ernst, will also be there.

The 150 available places are already fully booked. Against this background, the city organized a live broadcast in the large open space in the city forum, as is usual for major sporting events.

The event will also be broadcast via live stream at www.dresden.de/carolabruecke. Questions can be asked both on site and online.

Bridge decision in autumn

The results of the public discussions and the recommendation of an expert jury form the basis for the city council’s decision. He will select a design in autumn 2026 so that the process of rebuilding the Carola Bridge can then move forward with the further commissioning of one of the four planning offices.
