Chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, widely considered the best chess player globally, will continue to compete in the Bundesliga, now also representing FC St. Pauli.

Carlsen is set to join FC St. Pauli for the upcoming Bundesliga season. “The past season was a great success for the team. We have proven that we can keep up in the Bundesliga and compete with the best teams. I look forward to accompanying the further progress of the team-and making my contribution to it,” the Norwegian stated in a club announcement.

Following their promotion, the Hamburg team secured twelfth place in their inaugural Bundesliga season.Carlsen’s participation is expected to draw significant attention to the club. “His whereabouts are considered a strong sign of the long-term goals of the department: to establish FC St. Pauli as a fixture in the chess Bundesliga-with a clear posture and its own style,” the club announcement further noted. Magnus Carlsen’s specific game dates will be announced later. The new chess season is scheduled to commence on September 27th.
