Tegucigalpa, Honduras.- The National Electoral Council (CNE) issued this Wednesday the official declaration at the presidential level, in which it proclaims as president-elect of Honduras Nasry Asfuraafter concluding the validation process of the results of the general elections.
The declaration was approved and signed by the counselors Ana Paola Hall and Cosette López, as well as by the substitute director Carlos Enrique Cardona Hernández, who joined the plenary session to replace the owner director, Marlon Ochoa, due to his absence in the decisive session.
Who is Carlos Enrique Cardona?
Carlos Enrique Cardona Hernandez He is a substitute councilor of the CNE, a position he holds together with Karen Patricia Rodríguez Álvarez, both appointed by the National Congress to join the plenary session of the electoral body when one of the regular councilors cannot attend the scheduled sessions.
In accordance with electoral regulations, the main function of substitute councilors is to guarantee the continuous operation of the CNE, ensuring the quorum required to deliberate and adopt resolutions at key moments of the electoral processas happened with the declaration of the presidential level.
On repeated occasions, Cardona has been specifically summoned to temporarily replace Marlon Ochoawho has recorded repeated absences from plenary sessions, a situation that has generated internal tensions and delays in some moments of the electoral schedule.
Cardona represents before the CNE the Salvador Party of Honduras (PSH), and their participation in this session was decisive for the organization to move forward with the official proclamation of the winner of the general elections.
The presidential declaration occurs in a context of political expectation and national attention, since it marks the formal closure of the electoral process at its highest level and gives way to the transition to the new government period.
During the afternoon of this Wednesday, December 24, the councilors Ana Paola Hall and Cosette López, together with the substitute councilor Carlos Enrique Cardona, made official the result that names Nasry Asfura Zablah as elected president of Honduras for the period 2026-2030.
With this resolution, the CNE fulfills one of the final stages of the electoral process, while different political and social sectors remain attentive to the next institutional steps, including the declaration of other elective levels and the preparation for the inauguration of the new government.
