The Arizona Cardinals have announced that quarterback Kyler Murray will be released within the next week.
Once he is released by the Cardinals, the 28-year-old center will be able to join any organization in the National Football League (NFL).
Murray posted a message Tuesday that was addressed to Cardinals fans. He expressed regret for not having more success, leading the team to the playoffs only once in seven seasons.
To everyone who supported me and was kind to my family and me during my time in Arizona, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m sorry I wasn’t up to the task. I wish your community the best
wrote Murray.
I know adversity well and I am ready to face the future. I trust God and my work ethic. I am convinced that the best is yet to come and I can’t wait to prove it. Good luck
he added.
The main player only played five games last season. Murray totaled 962 air yards and 6 touchdowns against 3 interceptions before injuring his foot. He also passed for 173 yards and recorded 1 major on the ground.
Veteran Jacoby Brissett was given the keys to the offense during the absence of Murray, who did not see action again after October 5.
Murray’s name was eventually placed on injured reserve in November. The Cardinals went 3-14 last season, then fired head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Before making the jump to the Goodell circuit, Murray won the prestigious Heisman Trophy, awarded to the MVP of the NCAA, with the University of Oklahoma Sooners in 2018.
He was then chosen 1st overall in the NFL draft by the Cardinals in 2019.
Murray is off to a good start to his career in Arizona. He was first voted Most Outstanding Offensive Rookie in 2019, then he made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021.
He threw 121 touchdown passes against 60 interceptions, amassing 20,460 yards through the air in 87 games with the Cardinals. He added 31 majors and 3,193 yards on the ground.
Remember that the versatile athlete was also selected in the major baseball draft in 2018, when the Oakland Athletics had set their sights on Murray at 9th place.
