Popstar Cardi B secured a meaningful legal win on Tuesday against a security guard, Emani Ellis, who had filed a $24 million lawsuit. The suit alleged that the then-pregnant rap performer physically assaulted her outside a Beverly Hills obstetricianS office in 2018.

The 12-member Los Angeles Superior Court jury reached a unanimous verdict in under an hour, siding with the 32-year-old, Grammy-winning recording artist, known for hits like Such and I Like It.

the jurors determined that Emani Ellis did not sufficiently prove her claims that Cardi B physically attacked her, scratched her face with fingernails, spat on her, and used racial slurs. Both women are black.

During the trial, Ellis testified that she asked Cardi B to leave the medical building’s premises because she was “causing a disturbance.”

cardi B, taking the stand in her defense, stated that Ellis was the aggressor in what she described as a “verbal altercation.” She said the incident began when Ellis, working as a uniformed security officer, started “invading my privacy.”

Cardi B claimed that Ellis followed her and attempted to record her with a cellphone while she was on her way to an obstetrician appointment, a time when she was pregnant but had not yet publicly announced it.

At the time, Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, was expecting her first child with rapper Offset; she now has three.

The singer admitted to cursing at Ellis during the “chest to chest” argument but denied any physical contact, spitting,or using racial slurs.

Video clips from Court TV showing the New York City-born rapper of Caribbean descent sporting diffrent wigs and hairstyles each day went viral on social media.

Cardi B’s Response and Ellis’s Reaction

“The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going countersue, and you’re going to pay,”

Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse in Alhambra, a Los Angeles suburb, Cardi B declared her intention to be more proactive against unwarranted legal claims in the future.

“The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going countersue, and you’re going to pay,” she said. “I’m not that celeb that you’re going to sue and I’m going to settle… I work hard for my money.”

Addressing the media separately, Ellis stated that she was “not at all” sorry for pursuing the case and was glad to have had her day in court. “I don’t want it to be overlooked. I don’t want it to be something that’s brushed under the rug,” Ellis said. “What she did to me was real.”
