A first corporal of Carabineros lost his life the morning of this Tuesday after being involved in a traffic accident while riding his motorcycle through the center of the capital.
The event, which was confirmed by General Álex Bahamondez, head of the Western Zone of Carabineros, was recorded at 00:35 a.m. at the intersection of the streets Ñuble and San Diego, in the commune of Santiago.
“We are lamenting a terrible event, a traffic accident in which an official of our institution participateswho died (…) The vehicle that collided with the motorcycle it was riding on fled, not paying attention to the victim,” said the police chief.
The 30-year-old police officer belonged to the crew of the Dog Training Group from the institution’s Specialty School and was on duty, leaving his shift.
According to witness accounts, the victim prior to the road accident would have been intercepted by unknown subjectswho They would have tried to steal his vehicle through a trap.
It is still being investigated whether the victim was injured with a sharp weapon, after resisting the alleged crime.
When trying to escape from the crime, the police was collided by a vehicle at the aforementioned corner, and as a result of the impact and the severity of their injuries, died at the scenedespite the rapid attendance of emergency teams.
In this regard, the prosecutor Fernando Ruizfrom the North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, indicated that the procedure originated as “a robbery with injuries and, later, they are confirmed by the death of the official who, in this case, was a victim.”
“With the first steps, we are not ruling out any hypothesis, but we can preliminarily establish that The circumstance in which this unfortunate event occurred is related to the collision between two vehicles. that were traveling, one on Ñuble Street and the other on San Diego Street,” he added.
In that sense, he explained that a white car “he would not have respected the red traffic light and would have collided with the motorcycle in which the official was traveling, which is ejected and falls on the public road,” he added.
Entrapment hypothesis investigated
Regarding the version of a witness who stated that the police officer previously would have been the victim of a trapand at the time of the road accident he was escaping from the crime, the pursuer remarked that “we are working on the various hypotheses of the origin of this incident.”
“We cannot rule out that the official has been fleeing from a possible robbery.. Therefore, it is a situation that the various procedures we are carrying out must confirm or rule out. Police personnel arrived at the scene following the traffic accident initiallyand then, upon verifying the identification of the victim and the testimony of witnesses, the hypothesis of a eventual frustrated trapsince the vehicle could not be stolen.
The site of the event was cordoned off to facilitate investigative work and the collection of evidence.
