Agriculture can even pay a minimum wage of 1,000 euros in 2028, as some parties defend in their electoral programs (PS, PSD and Chega), as long as farmers start receiving what is owed to them for production. Álvaro Mendonça e Moura, president of CAP – Confederation of Farmers of Portugal, said this in an interview with Antena1 and Jornal de Negócios.

Regarding the transition from this objective to a possible income agreement in the context of social consultation, Álvaro Mendonça e Moura says that first it is necessary to comply with the agreement that was signed and only then should we talk about new agreements, because “what was signed has not yet was applied and the next government must comply with it.”
The president of CAP says that “more than receiving the European aid that is due and indispensable to them, what farmers need is to earn money” and, for this, their products must be valued, with an equitable distribution of value .
Álvaro Mendonça e Moura considers that “only with transparency will it be possible to achieve this and to this end he advocates a price observatory that could be the existing one or another entity that regularly publishes the profit percentages of each entity up to the final consumer”.
