We commend Lisa M Force and colleagues1 for their Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 systematic analysis on the global cancer burden, particularly its stark forecast of disproportionate growth in low-income and middle-income countries. While the study provides invaluable global estimates, it also underscores geographical data gaps crucial for policy planning. Specifically, cancer surveillance data from sub-Saharan Africa is gravely underrepresented. We noted that 23 (48·9%) of 47 sub-Saharan Africa countries were unrepresented, and available data are often historical (eg, Namibia registry, 1983–92).
