Canary Islands Storm: Flight Diversions – Claudia Update

A total of eleven flights have been diverted this Wednesday due to adverse weather, derived from the storm Claudiaat the airports of Gran Canaria and La Palma, Aena sources inform Europa Press.

In Gran Canaria, four flights had to land in Fuerteventura, two in Tenerife South and another in Tenerife North, while in La Palma two were diverted to Tenerife South and another two to Gran Canaria and Tenerife North, respectively.

The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of Canary Islands has declared alerts by wind, rains e floods throughout the Autonomous Community starting at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.


This Wednesday, La Palma received the first effects of the passage through the Canary Islands of Storm Claudia, in the form of rains that have discharged 45 liters of water per square meter in various parts of the island. The passage of a front associated with Storm Claudia will leave moderate and persistent rainfall, as well as storms and sea storms, as described by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in its special report for the Islands.
