Nurse Turner would probably be more help tending to the sick refugees of the flattened Hibiscus Clinic and Convent, but instead she goes on a side quest to track down May’s birth mother. Call the Midwife is one of the few shows I’ve encountered that explores the complexities, emotional and ethical, of transnational interracial adoption. I wish this could have been more of the focus, but Poplar has a Christmas parade to put on, with costumes to make and Scouts to corral.
