Cali Celebrates a Decade of International Theater Festival

The International Theater Festival of Cali commenced with a jubilant parade along the river boulevard, marking its 10th anniversary and celebrating 70 years of theatrical heritage in the city.The event transformed the city into a stage for performers and spectators alike.
Approximately 11 artistic groups participated in the opening exhibition, inviting residents to partake in the ten-day program. Attendees can select from over 90 productions staged across the Vallecaucana capital.
Leidy Hygidio, Secretary of Culture, stated, “what we live in this parade along the boulevard is a moment of recognition and celebration. Recognition to the theatrical scene in our branch, to our tour and the meaning it has for Cali. So today we meet the open sky to reaffirm and celebrate that the theater is alive, wich is of all, all and all; and that through its artists and theater rooms they are a essential part of our cultural district.”
Miriam Cecilia Mora, a cultural manager and advocate for Popular Theater, views the festival as a symbol of life, dialogue, magic, brotherhood, and inclusion.
“An opening like this represents Cali and its great artistic component: the circus, music, plastic arts and theater itself, which is the union of all of them. It is very important that it happens in an open space such as the river boulevard, because art is for everyone,” Miriam said.
The opening ceremony featured a performance by Cirt Circa, a contemporary circus company from Bogota with 25 years of experience. Their performance, “connections,” resonated deeply with the audience.
