In a bold move to combat the ongoing homelessness crisis, Sacramento has launched the SAFE Stay Community, a project offering rent-free housing coupled with supportive services. This initiative, situated on Stockton Boulevard, aligns with Governor gavin Newsom’s statewide push for innovative “tiny house” solutions.

Residents also receive three meals daily, and are allowed to keep pets under specific guidelines.

As of late April 2025, approximately 37 individuals have been admitted since the community’s opening in late December 2024, according to DCR Director Brian Pedro.

Upon entry, residents agree to a code of conduct established by First Step Communities, the association overseeing the shelter’s operations.
