On Sunday evening in Hamburg, RB Leipzig achieved something that the Saxons had not managed to do so far this season: a win after coming from behind. In these statistics, before the away win at HSV (2-1), the Red Bulls were in the relegation zone compared to their Bundesliga competition. The worst team in this regard so far is Borussia Mönchengladbach, one of three teams that has not been able to turn a game around after being behind this season.
“Two things are important. That we made up a deficit. We haven’t managed to do that yet, except in the cup once. And then that we keep a lead over time,” said top scorer Christoph Baumgartner of Leipzig’s away win at HSV. “Of course we have to close it down earlier, no question about it. But I think in the end, actually the whole game, it was an extremely mature performance, an extremely mature performance. I can’t remember anything that HSV was behind. We defended really well.”
Before matchday 24, Leipzig had fallen behind a total of seven times. From these 23 games they only got one point and lost six times. After Fábio Vieira gave HSV a 1-0 lead on Sunday, RB made it 2-1 for the first time and improved their comeback account to four points – 15th place in the Bundesliga comparison. However, the number of eight deficits in the current season is not large. Only Borussia Dortmund were behind less often (six times), but still got six points from these games. RB rivals Bayer Leverkusen were ten times behind and then scored five more points. Leaders FC Bayern fell behind nine times and still collected a strong 18 points from these games. Munich only lost once.

Freiburg, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart celebrated the most wins after falling behind FC Bayern (5) – four each. The sports club was behind by a total of 16 times, but then scored 15 points. TSG and VfB had to come from behind 12 times and each secured 14 points from these positions. In the relegation zone of these statistics are Union Berlin (four points after 14 deficits), VfL Wolfsburg (two points after 16 deficits) and Borussia Mönchengladbach with the red lantern; Gladbach was behind twelve times, the Foals lost eleven times and only got at least one point once.
