Jeremy Swayman stopped 41 of 43 shots thrown his way to help the Boston Bruins beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 on Saturday night.

David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov and Marat Khusnutdinov, in an empty net, made the red light shine for the Bruins, who obtained at least a point in a fifth straight game (3-0-2).

Morgan Geekie had three goals, while Charlie McAvoy had two assists in the Bruins’ victory.

Thanks to this victory, the Bruins (39-23-8, 86 points) have the same number of points as the Montreal Canadiens (38-21-10, 86 points) in the standings, but the Habs remain ahead since they have played one game less.

Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat responded for the Red Wings, who saw their short two-game winning streak come to an end. John Gibson made 23 saves.

The Red Wings (38-24-8, 84 points) remain in last place entering the playoffs in the East, but are closely followed by the New York Islanders (39-26-5, 83 points) and the Ottawa Senators (36-24-9, 81 points).

The Red Wings took a 2-1 lead 4:06 into the third period, thanks to the 35e DeBrincat’s goal of the campaign, but Lindholm responded a little more than two minutes later and Zadorov gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead with 10:18 remaining.

Sam Carrick, Rasmus Dahlin and Zach Benson also scored for the Sabres, who signed their fourth straight victory. The team is 12-1-0 since returning from the Olympic break.

The Sabers (44-20-6) sit atop the Atlantic Division with 94 points in 70 games. They find themselves tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for first place in the East.

Josh Norris had two assists, while goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 26 saves in the victory.

Artemi Panarin scored the only goal for the Kings, who suffered a second straight loss and have lost three of their last four meetings.

Anton Forsberg stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced in the loss.

Lightning 5 – Oilers 2

Nikita Kucherov scored two goals and two assists, moving two points ahead of Connor McDavid in the league scoring standings, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-2.

Kucherov now sits atop the NHL in scoring with 118 points, but McDavid (116) and Nathan MacKinnon (114) are not far behind.

Anthony Cirelli scored two goals and Jake Guentzel also found the back of the net for the Lightning (43-21-4), who have won four of their last five games.

McDavid and Josh Samanski responded for the Oilers (34-28-9), who suffered a second straight loss and missed a golden opportunity to gain ground in the playoff race after most of their main rivals also lost earlier in the day.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves for the win, while Connor Ingram made 22 in front of the Oilers net.

Senators 5 – Maple Leafs 2

The Ottawa Senators dominated their provincial rivals on Saturday night, winning 5-2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Senators (36-24-9) controlled the game from start to finish, scoring the first three goals of the game.

Anthony Stolarz was supposed to be the starting goalie, but he was shot in the throat by William Nylander during warmups and was taken to the hospital for tests.

Joseph Woll, who faced 36 shots in the Maple Leafs’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night, took his place in net.

Trailing 3-1 at the start of the third period, the Leafs (29-29-13) reduced the gap thanks to a goal from Easton Cowan.

The Senators regained a two-goal lead midway through the period when Michael Amadio scored on a rebound from Jordan Spence. On a counter-attack, Dylan Cozens found Ridly Greig in the slot, who beat Woll, author of 39 saves.

Linus Ullmark made a spectacular glove save on a Matias Maccelli shot early in the second period, preserving the Senators’ 1-0 lead.

The Senators made it 2-0 midway through the period when Claude Giroux took a rebound from Tyler Kleven and beat Woll with a backhand shot.

Warren Foegele made it 3-0 with just over two minutes left in the middle period, his shot being deflected by Simon Benoit. Twenty-one seconds later, John Tavares completed an exchange with Cowan and beat Ullmark under the arm.

The Senators opened the scoring at 14:58 of the first period on the power play. Tim Stützle stepped into the faceoff circle and fired a wrist shot that deceived Woll.

Morgan Rielly missed the game and is being assessed daily due to a lower body injury.

Jets 4 – Penguins 5 (TB)

Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell scored in a shootout and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 on Saturday.

The Penguins, who are keeping pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race, have picked up at least one point in seven of their last eight games and 21 of their last 25.

Arturs Silovs, who made 21 saves in the first 65 minutes, stopped Jonathan Toews and Gustav Nyquist in a shootout.

Erik Karlsson scored two goals and had his fourth consecutive game with more than one point. The Swedish defenseman has collected seven goals and 19 points in his last 12 outings.

Egor Chinakhov hits the target to get his 100e career point in the NHL. Rakell threaded the needle in regulation, extending his streak of games with at least one point to eight, which is a career high.

Parker Wotherspoon had a hand in two Penguins goals and Bryan Rust, who had a 700e game in the NHL, collected an assist to collect at least a point in a sixth consecutive game.

Brad Lambert, who added an assist, Cole Koepke, shorthanded, Morgan Barron and Neal Pionk responded for the Jets.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 26 pucks in a losing cause.

Cole Sillinger had a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory for the Columbus Blue Jackets against the Seattle Kraken.

Danton Heinen, Damon Severson, Kent Johnson and Mathieu Olivier also scored for the Blue Jackets, who won a fourth consecutive duel.

Zach Werenski was complicit in three goals, while Elvis Merzlikins made 15 saves in front of the net for the Blue Jackets, who have suffered only one defeat in regulation time in their last 20 meetings (15-1-4).

Thanks to this victory, the Blue Jackets (85 points) consolidated their third place in the Metropolitan section.

Owen Tippett scored in the second period, while Travis Sanheim and Noah Cates added empty-net goals in the final two minutes of play for the Flyers, who have won five of their last six games.

Matvei Michkov assisted on Dvorak’s goal, reaching the 100-point NHL mark. Dan Vladar, for his part, made 24 saves in the victory.

Thanks to this win, the Flyers remain at the height of the playoff race. They are four points behind the Detroit Red Wings and the Boston Bruins, who hold the last two playoff spots in the East.

Dmitry Orlov scored the only goal for the Sharks, who suffered a fourth straight loss and a seventh in nine games. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced.

Vladimir Tarasenko found the back of the net 3:06 into overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

It was a 20e goal this season for the Russian striker, who has scored four goals in his last three games.

Bobby Brink also shook the strings for the Wild, who bounced back after losing 2-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Quinn Hughes had two assists and Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves in net for the Wild.

Jason Robertson responded for the Stars, who have lost two of their last three meetings. Jake Oettinger stopped 26 pucks.

Thanks to this victory, the Wild moves to within five points of the Stars, who hold second place in the Central section. The Texas team, however, has two games in hand.

Golden Knights 1 – Predators 4

Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist to guide the Nashville Predators to a 4-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Tyson Jost and Ryan O’Reilly also made moves for the Predators, who recorded a third straight win.

Justus Annunen made 39 saves, bringing his record to 8-9-2 this season.

With his second goal, Stamkos broke a tie with Brendan Shanahan and moved into seventh place in NHL history with 238 power play goals.

Shea Theodore scored the only goal for the Golden Knights, who suffered a third straight loss. Akira Schmid blocked 16 shots.

Blues 3 – Canucks 1

Pius Suter and Pavel Buchnevich scored 79 seconds apart in the second period, helping the St. Louis Blues defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1.

Jordan Binnington made 14 saves for the Blues, who ended a short two-game losing streak. Logan Mailloux had an assist.

Jordan Kyrou scored into an empty net on the power play with 48 seconds left in the third period to seal the victory.

Filip Hronek scored the only goal for the Canucks, who suffered a second defeat in a row. Kevin Lankinen stopped 18 shots.
