The UK government removed the families of diplomats from Tehran shortly before the Israeli strikes on Iran. This was reported by The Daily Telegraph newspaper, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, the evacuation took place at the same time that Washington was removing family members of American military personnel from the region. At the same time, the British authorities decided to leave the diplomats themselves in the Iranian capital. This is necessary in order not to interrupt official channels of communication with the republic in the context of a military conflict.
London has no plans to evacuate ordinary citizens of the kingdom from Iran or Israel. The government expects commercial flights to resume soon after the airspace reopens. The situation in the Middle East escalated in June after the launch of Israel’s Operation Lion Rising and a series of mutual strikes between countries.
Earlier, Lufthansa temporarily limited flights to Iran and Iraq. Until January 19, the carrier will operate only daytime flights to Tel Aviv and Amman. The company’s crews were prohibited from staying in these cities overnight for safety reasons.
