Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman said the Corruption Eradication Commission needed to investigate who purchased two units of cellular telephones (HP) with a limit price of IDR 73 thousand, and which were sold at auction for around IDR 59.71 million.
According to Boyamin, this step needs to be taken by the Corruption Eradication Committee because there could be secrets that need to be discovered about these two cellphones so that buyers dare to buy at high prices.
“The Corruption Eradication Commission must find out who the buyers are, there could be secrets that need to be explored,” said Boyamin when contacted in Jakarta, Tuesday (17/3).

He said that the auctions carried out by the KPK were sometimes an anomaly. Like at a batik cloth auction where the limit value is IDR 500 thousand, and it sells for IDR 5 million.
Boyamin believes that the batik was bought by the auction winner because it was a memento for the owner.
This is different from cellphones, whose market prices have decreased over time. And it is unlikely that the cellphone will be used as a souvenir.
“The price of cellphones is getting cheaper and cheaper. Not even if they are used as souvenirs. So you need to be suspicious of the buyer of the cellphone when the data is something they want to save, if it’s a memento or not,” he said.
Or, said Boyamin, it could be that the cellphone contains gold or is made of gold coating so that the buyer is willing to pay more for the two OPPO brand cellphones.
“Or the cellphone is gold-plated, it has to be like that. If it’s not gold-plated, it has no value, so it has to sell for tens of thousands, which is not possible,” he said.
He suspected that the cellphone had data that the buyer wanted to save. Because if the cellphone is bought by someone else, then the data will be leaked.
Therefore, Boyamin advised the Corruption Eradication Commission to double-check what data is stored on the cellphone and investigate it further. Perhaps there is potential for other suspected corruption stored on the cellphone.
“So the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must double-check what data is on the cellphone. And it is reasonable to suspect that it is still related to corruption and must be further investigated and processed for potential or suspected corruption contained in the cellphone data,” he said.
“I’m sure the buyer wanted to save the data so it wouldn’t leak anywhere. If someone else bought it it would definitely leak, that’s why he dared to buy it at a high price,” continued Boyamin.
Previously, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) admitted that two units of OPPO branded cell phones (HP) with a limit price of IDR 73 thousand, and which were sold at auction for around IDR 59.72 million, were an anomaly.
“It’s true, there is an anomaly related to the high value of the auction winner,” said the Corruption Eradication Commission’s Director of Asset Tracking, Evidence Management and Execution, Mungki Hadipolitikto, to journalists in Jakarta, Monday (16/3).
Based on the latest data he obtained, the winner of the auction for two cellphones worth Rp. 73 thousand is said to have just deposited the security deposit and has not yet paid it off. Meanwhile, the deadline for repayment is March 25, 2026.
Therefore, he said that the KPK was still waiting for the auction winner to pay off the two cellphones.
“We still hope that the auction winner will commit to paying off the auction fee because if it is not paid off, the auction winner will be deemed to be in default. As a result, the deposit that has been deposited will be forfeited and will be deposited into the state treasury, then we will auction the item at the next auction,” he said.
