[정필=류다인 정치전문기자 kspa@jeongpil.com] ‘Beomil-dong, a city built on memory’, a research group of members of the Dong-gu Council of Busan Metropolitan City, successfully held a policy discussion for the revitalization of the old Borim Theater area in Beomil-dong for two days on the 24th and 27th.

‘Beomil-dong, a city built on memory’ is a research group comprised of lawmakers Ahn Jong-won, Kim Mi-yeon, and Kim Hee-jae, and is conducting research to discover historical, cultural and tourism content by reviving the special narrative of Beomil-dong that has been forgotten in people’s minds.

The lawmakers focused on the special stories of Beomil-dong, such as Lee Jung-seop, who lost his artistic spirit in loneliness after being separated from his family, the days when it was the center of textiles and fashion, the commutes of female workers working at Samhwa Rubber and other companies, and the shows at the Borim Theater enjoyed after hard work.

Accordingly, after receiving approval for registration as a research organization last January, after repeated field trips, the first policy debate for residents was held at the Busan Fashion Biz Center to vividly listen to the stories of local residents.

‘Save Beomil-dong! At this day’s discussion session, subtitled ‘Day of Bringing Out Memories’, local residents who have lived there for generations and nearby self-employed people sat together and freely brought out the memories of Beomil-dong that they had held in their hearts.

Based on this, the 2nd policy debate was held at the Dong-gu Council conference room on the 27th to develop historical and cultural tourism content.

Here, starting with Rep. Kim Mi-yeon’s presentation on tourism content from Sister’s Road to Busan Fashion Biz Center to Old Borim Theater to Lee Jung-seop Culture Street, advice from researchers from the Busan Research Institute and representatives of the travel industry followed.

Rep. Kim Mi-yeon, who serves as the representative of the research group, said that the success of urban regeneration is only possible when it is done together with residents, not by the administration, so she believes that now is the right time, as the Lee Jung-seop Cultural Street renewal project is underway, and is pursuing research activities. She pledged to move forward to revitalize Beomil-dong, which is sprouting with the hopes of residents.
