Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized former president Jair Bolsonaro to leave prison and be hospitalized this Wednesday (24) to undergo surgery recommended by private doctors and experts from the Federal Police (PF).

Bolsonaro is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday (25), at the DF Star Hospital, in Brasília.

The former president will undergo a surgical procedure to treat an inguinal hernia and persistent hiccups. Hospitalization should last five to seven days, according to lawyers.

Bolsonaro is imprisoned in a room at the Federal Police Superintendence, in the federal capital, where he is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for being convicted of the coup plot.

Surveillance

During the period of hospitalization, Bolsonaro will be monitored by PF agents.

Moraes determined that the PF must carry out Bolsonaro’s transportation and security in a “discreet” manner.

In addition, surveillance of the former president will be 24 hours a day, with two agents stationed at the room door, as well as other teams inside and outside the hospital.

The minister also banned cell phones, computers and electronic devices from entering Bolsonaro’s room.

The former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, was the only companion allowed to stay at the hospital. Other visits can only take place with the authorization of the minister.
