Bolsonaro: Ankle Bracelet & Housework After Release

by Archynetys News Desk

The former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was discharged from hospital this Friday (26) after the minister Alexandre de Moraesfrom the STF (Supreme Federal Court), accept the defense’s request and grant house arrest to the former head of the Executive.

With his discharge, Bolsonaro put on an electronic ankle bracelet at 8:45 am and left the hospital at 9:45 am, to serve temporary house arrest for the initial period of 90 days. The measure was granted to allow recovery from bronchopneumonia. At the end of the period, the Supreme Court must reassess the need for home maintenance.

The decision came after the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) expressed support for the transfer of the former president to home rule. The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, stated that it was demonstrated by medical reports that Bolsonaro’s health needs constant monitoring, which can be better offered in the “family environment”.

Moraes’ order was given just over a week after the former president was admitted to a hospital in Brasília with bronchopneumonia and amidst increased stress on the STF with the crisis related to Banco Master.

Even outside the 19th Military Police Battalion, known as “Papudinha”where he was serving a prison sentence, Bolsonaro will continue to be subject to a set of monitoring rules imposed by the STF.

Check out the main rules imposed by the Court

  • Use of electronic ankle bracelet: The former president will be monitored in real time by CIME (Integrated Monitoring Center). Installation of the equipment is an immediate condition for starting the home regime.
  • Weekly Medical Reports: Bolsonaro’s defense and health team must send the STF, every seven days, a detailed report on his clinical condition and the progress of his treatment.
  • Travel restriction: Bolsonaro must remain at his residence, leaving only for emergency medical care or previously authorized consultations, under penalty of revocation of his residence permit.
  • Personal Security: The minister authorized the resumption of the security guard duties to which Bolsonaro is entitled as former president. However, the defense has 24 hours to send the list with the names and details of all agents to the STF for official registration.
  • Incommunicability: The use of cell phones, telephones or any other means of external communication, whether directly or through third parties, is prohibited. The rule also includes the use of social networks and video and audio recordings.
Demonstrations: Access to and presence in any camps, demonstrations or gatherings within a radius of 1 km from the former president’s home address is prohibited.
  • Non-compliance: The decision is clear in determining that any violation of the rules will result in the immediate cancellation of house arrest and return to the regime.
