Bolillos Navatejera: 500 Lace Makers Break Record

Villaquilambre has once again consecrated the art of bobbin lace as one of the most alive traditions of the Leonese province. The Navatejera Sports Center hosted the IX Meeting of Bolillos and Multilabores, an event that exceeded expectations and marked a milestone in its history by bringing together nearly 500 participants from multiple parts of Spain.

Organized by the Association of Leonese Bolilleras, the event filled the pavilion with the rhythmic and soft melody of the clashing of the bolillos. Amateurs and master craftsmen, coming not only from León, but from the community, Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Navarra, shared an intense morning of work. They demonstrated their skill in traditional techniques such as bobbin lace itself, and others such as patchwork and hemstitching, weaving an impressive mosaic of threads and textures.

The objective of the day, as the organization stressed, is to prevent tradition from being lost and to give continuity to a craft that, despite its age, continues to attract new generations. A showcase of textile creativity, it also served as a commercial meeting, where specialized vendors offered material that was often difficult to find.
