The Salvation Army’s Boise ‘Client Choice Food Pantry’ reopens post-pandemic.

BOISE, Idaho — The Salvation Army in Boise celebrated the grand re-opening of its ‘Client Choice Food Pantry’ this week.

Stacy Lawrence, director of social services and Pathway of Hope, said this is the first time the pantry has been open since the pandemic.

Lawrence said they were still providing food to those in need, but had been doing so drive-through style until recently.

The Salvation Army Boise Corps said the only requirement to access the food pantry is to show proof that you are an Ada County resident. Approved residents have access to the pantry, which includes fresh, canned and frozen foods, every 30 days.

“Sometimes, if you are lacking in resources, you end up getting what you get, right? People get something thrown at them and then they have to make do,” Lawrence said. “So the idea to choose your own things, like food, sometimes there’s toiletry items, cleaning supplies — it’s nice to have that choice and it feels more like a shopping experience rather than just a handout.”

The food pantry is at 9492 W. Emerald St. in Boise. It’s open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Salvation Army in Boise is also accepting food and monetary donations year-round to continue serving those in need.
