By 1990, McKenzie had moved onto the broadcast side, joining CBC’s coverage of the tournament in Hamilton. The following year, in Saskatoon, he worked his first world juniors for TSN, a relationship that would soon define how Canadians experienced the event. It was the first year the network held the tournament broadcast rights, and its coverage soon coincided with five consecutive gold medals for Canada from 1993 to 1997, piquing national interest.
