A great start to the game and a brilliant performance from rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage propelled the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Ahead 3-2 in the series, the Toronto team is only one win away from winning the title.
In his fifth postseason start and eighth in major league baseball, Yesavage impressed once again. The 22-year-old pitcher achieved what no pitcher had achieved before him in the World Series by striking out 12 batters.
He completely muzzled the Dodgers’ biggest strikeout threat, Shohei Ohtani. The latter did not reach the trails once during the evening.
In seven innings of work, Yesavage allowed only one run, on an Enrique Hernández homer in the third inning, and three hits.

In contrast, Dodgers starter Blake Snell’s work evening got off to a bad start. Davis Schneider sent the veteran’s very first pitch over the fence.
Second to come to the plate, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. imitated Schneider by sending the ball, too, far to left field. His eighth home run of the postseason gave the Jays a 2-0 lead.
The two-time Cy Young winner recovered afterwards, but nevertheless allowed five points to the Blue Jays, as was the case in Game 1, won 11-4 by the Canadian team.
In the fourth inning, Daulton Varsho scored at his expense on a sacrifice fly from Ernie Clement.
In the seventh inning, Snell was chased off the mound with two runners on the trails. In relief, Edgardo Henriquez was unable to slow the Jays’ momentum.

Posted at third base, Addison Badger took advantage of a bad throw from the Dodgers reliever to cross home plate. Andrés Giménez then scored on a single by Bo Bichette.
In six and a third innings, Snell allowed six hits and four walks, and had seven strikeouts.
In the eighth inning, the Jays further widened the gap against reliever Anthony Banda, thanks to a productive single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Seranthony Domínguez and Jeff Hoffman were solid in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the victory for the Blue Jays.

Injured in the third game of the series on Monday, George Springer did not take part in the match.
The action will move to Toronto, where Game 6 will be played on Friday. The Blue Jays will try to win their first World Series in 32 years.
If a seventh match is necessary, it will also take place in the Canadian metropolis on Saturday.
