Blood Glucose Sensor Recall: Risks & What Diabetics Need To Know

Yes “not give in to panic”. These are the words of Boris Hansel, diabetologist and nutritionist at Bichat hospital in Paris, after the announcement of a massive recall of blood glucose sensors produced by the American company Abbott. In a press release dated November 24, publicized this Thursday, December 4 in France, the pharmaceutical company announced that it had launched the «correction» of some of its sensors: FreeStyle Libre 3 (FSL3) and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus (FSL 3 Plus). The cause is failures identified in these devices, patches to be placed on the arm, which are used to continuously monitor the blood glucose level in diabetics, in order to avoid the risks of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Without rapid treatment, these two situations can cause coma, or even cause death.
