New York Judge Sets March 2026 Trial Date
A New York federal judge has scheduled a March 9, 2026, trial for the ongoing legal dispute between Blake Lively and her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. The judge also moved the initial conference from mid-February to next week, emphasizing the need for both parties to prepare to address concerns about pretrial publicity and attorney conduct.
This move comes after Lively’s legal team accused Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, of attempting to influence potential jurors by releasing selected documents and communications between the two actors. The lawyers for Lively claim that Freedman’s actions are aimed at undermining Lively’s career and painting her in a negative light.
Freedman responded to these allegations by stating, “The irony is not lost on anyone that Ms. Lively is so petrified of the truth that she has moved to gag it.” He added that his team will continue to defend their clients with “pure, unedited facts” and plans to present text messages and video footage that contradict Lively’s claims of sexual harassment.
Separate Legal Action in Texas
Amidst these legal battles, Lively has taken a new step in Texas by filing a request for a deposition of Jed Wallace, a crisis management specialist she accuses of orchestrating the online backlash against her during the film’s release and promotion. Wallace, whose firm Street Relations was subcontracted by publicists working with Baldoni, is alleged to have weaponized social media to create, seed, manipulate, and advance disparaging content.
Wallace is named as a witness in Lively’s federal lawsuit but is not a defendant. However, his alleged role in the social media campaigns has added another layer to the escalating legal conflict. While Freedman, who represents Wallace, did not comment on the issue, Lively’s team plans to use this deposition to further their case against Baldoni and his team.
Disputes Over Reputation and Financial Claims
Lively’s lawsuit in New York, initiated in late December, accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment and attacks on her reputation, seeking unspecified damages. Baldoni responded by filing his lawsuit in early January, alleging defamation and extortion against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and demanding at least $400 million in damages.
The judge has indicated an intention to combine these lawsuits for the trial, streamlining the legal process and potentially offering a clearer outcome for the parties involved.
Background on ‘It Ends With Us’
“It Ends With Us,” an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel from 2016, was released in August and exceeded box office expectations with a $50 million debut. However, the film’s release was overshadowed by speculation about the discord between Lively and Baldoni, which has continued to escalate into this series of legal disputes.
Blake Lively, renowned for her roles in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” “Gossip Girl,” and notable films like “The Town” and “The Shallows,” faced significant backlash following the release of “It Ends With Us.” Meanwhile, Justin Baldoni, known for his roles in “Jane the Virgin” and directing “Five Feet Apart,” is also a high-profile figure who is now at the center of this public and legal controversy.
The Journey Forward
The upcoming trial and deposition bring a new phase to this high-profile legal battle, with both sides prepared to present their cases and evidence. As the legal proceedings continue, fans and observers will be looking for clarity on the events that led to this dispute and its implications for the careers of Lively and Baldoni.
While the legal proceedings may settle the disputes between the parties, the broader impact on the film industry and the treatment of actors in high-profile disputes remains to be seen.
Conclusion
The ongoing legal conflict between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is a complex situation that highlights the challenges faced by actors in the high-stakes world of Hollywood. As the trial date approaches, all eyes will be on the courtroom for what promises to be a significant and revealing legal drama.
