This flagship project consists in the installation of an undersea electricity cable connecting the South Caucasus region and the EU. It has the potential to help achieve ambitious green targets, by enabling export of green energy from the South Caucasus, thus unlocking capacity for renewable energy generation.
The project goes in parallel with the alignment of the legal frameworks of partner countries with the fundamentals of the EU energy law, i.e. liberalisation packages and electricity market regulations, which is key for increasing trade between the EU and the South Caucasus countries and beyond, as well as to attract investments. The project developers have applied for the Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status under the EU’s Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regulation, for which the assessment is currently ongoing.
