Paleontologists have unearthed the fossilized remains of a previously unkown dinosaur species in the heart of the Gobi Desert, Mongolia. This remarkable creature, dubbed Duonychus Tsogtbaatari, meaning “two-clawed hero,” boasts a distinctive feature: a pair of massive claws, each nearly 30 centimeters long. Duonychus Tsogtbaatari: A Vegetarian Relative of the T-Rex

Belonging to the therizinosaur group, which includes relatives of the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex, Duonychus Tsogtbaatari roamed the Earth approximately 90 million years ago. Unlike its carnivorous cousins, this dinosaur was primarily a herbivore.Researchers believe it used its formidable claws to reach high-growing vegetation and as a defence mechanism against predators.

Distinguishing Features: Two Claws Set This Dino Apart

What truly sets Duonychus tsogtbaatari apart from other therizinosaurs is its possession of only two claws on each forelimb. Most members of this group had three. While some therizinosaur species reached colossal sizes, weighing up to five tons and measuring ten meters in length, Duonychus Tsogtbaatari was considerably smaller, weighing around 260 kilograms. Still, it would have towered over an average adult human.
