The consequences of the road accident which occurred along via Biturgense, at the intersection with via San Biagio, could have been much worse, but in the end they proved to be light, not like the sanctions imposed by the local police officers of Città di Castello upon discovering a long series of violations of the highway code discovered.
The incident occurred when the driver of a car, a 24-year-old, proceeding in a northerly direction, carried out a prohibited overtaking, completely cutting into the oncoming lane, just as a motorcycle driven by a 59-year-old man was approaching.
The motorcyclist, to avoid a head-on collision, braked sharply, but fell to the ground, violently impacting the front part of the car. A local police patrol immediately intervened on site, carrying out the necessary investigations and routine checks on documents and vehicles.
This is where the picture of irregularities emerged. The investigation established that the 59-year-old driving the motorbike did not have the appropriate license to drive that vehicle, was traveling without any insurance coverage and was riding a vehicle without the periodic inspection required by law.
Further checks revealed that the motorcycle was still registered to a previous owner, as the transfer of ownership had never been finalised. This detail led to the dispute of a report for “reckless reliance” also against the legitimate owner of the vehicle.
Sanctions have also arrived for the young motorist: his license has been withdrawn, which will be suspended for a period of 3 to 6 months as he is a new driver, and he has suffered a reduction of 20 points from his licence.
The motorcyclist, rescued by 118 personnel, was transported to hospital and after treatment, he was discharged with a diagnosis of minor injuries. The motorbike was seized and placed under administrative detention for 3 months.
The accident caused severe slowdowns on the Via Biturgense. To manage the road system, a second patrol was deployed which diverted traffic through the town of Cerbara, until the vehicles were completely removed.
