Both parents have now been sentenced in the Oslo district court. The judgment is not yet final.

According to the verdict, the boy must have been exposed to physical and psychological violence over a period of five years.

“In the court’s view, there is no doubt that the regular violence described, even if it was not in itself the most serious, formed a pattern which meant that the victim lived under a ‘regime’ characterized by continuous insecurity and fear of violence”, writes the court.

– He is disappointed with the result and the verdict will be appealed, writes the father’s defender, lawyer Cathrin Aspaas, in a text message to VG.

The mother’s defender, lawyer Jan Magne Birkeland, informs VG that the mother will also appeal the decision. Birkeland does not wish to comment further on the matter.

– He is well looked after

The police believe the 13-year-old has been exploited by criminals. And that he may have undertaken an assignment to throw a grenade at a nail salon in Bislett on their behalf.

Another boy of the same age who was at the scene was also brought in. Both boys are currently being cared for by child protection.

The parents were sentenced to 309 hours and 304 hours of community service respectively. Both must pay compensation of NOK 50,000 to the 13-year-old.

– I have been with my client and talked to him about the sentence. He is well looked after where he lives, but I do not want to comment on anything beyond that, says the 13-year-old’s legal aid lawyer, Elise Stilloff, to VG.

The neighbor raised the alarm

VG has previously written about how a neighbor raised the alarm last year that the 13-year-old was exposed to violence at home.

The woman has repeatedly expressed concern about how the boy is doing at home. She has both notified child welfare and reported the parents to the police.

This led to the 13-year-old being taken out of the home – and the case being investigated by the police.

The woman herself experienced being reported by child protection – because they believed that the contact with the 13-year-old was too extensive, and that it could be destructive.

– I have promised him that he will not be alone, and that I will do everything I can to ensure that he has the best possible time, the neighbor told VG.

The police have dismissed the case as there are no criminal charges against the neighbour. This means that the police believe that no offense has occurred.

In an interview with VG, the woman told how she was very skeptical about how the 13-year-old was isolated from his friends, school and the security he had from his home – when he was moved outside Oslo.
