Biggest Brain Health Mistakes

The brain is one of the most important organs in the body, and taking care of it is essential to maintaining focus, enjoying a good mental state, and living a long and healthy life.

Longevity researcher Dan Buettner spoke about ways to “improve brain health for a longer life.” During an interview with psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Amin, Buettner asked Amin to identify the biggest mistake people make regarding the health of their brains, according to what was reported by CNBC.

Amin replied, “They don’t even think about it; They do not establish a real relationship with their brains, even though it is undoubtedly the most important relationship a person will have in his life.”

Amin admits that, despite his long years of training as a psychiatrist, he did not pay enough attention to his brain health. He points out that the shift in his outlook began in 1991, when he began providing brain imaging services in his clinics. Then he decided to have his brain examined himself, only to discover that it was not as healthy as he had expected.

He said: “In 1991, I was a certified psychiatrist in two specialties, and I was the first student in neuroscience and medical school, and yet I did not care much about my brain health. I had bad habits; “I was only sleeping four hours a night, I was overweight, and it never occurred to me to think about my brain health.”

In order to improve his health, Amin made radical changes in his daily lifestyle, and decided to share what he learned with as many people as possible. He has written a number of books covering his discoveries, including the book “Change Your Brain… Change Your Pain.”

Practices recommended by Amin to maintain brain health
– Exercise regularly

– Learn new things constantly

– Make sure to eat omega-3 fatty acids

– Avoid foods that cause inflammation, such as sugar and processed foods

– Knowing the family’s genetic health history, and developing a preventive plan to avoid potential genetic diseases

– Get enough sleep

– Do not use the phone while driving, due to the high risk of head injuries during car accidents

– Avoid toxins, including drugs and alcohol

– Work to rid the body of toxins, especially through the use of a sauna

– Not believing all the negative thoughts dictated by the mind; From a mental health perspective, just because a negative thought occurs does not mean it is true

– Knowing the level of vitamin D and working to improve it when needed

– Checking hormone levels in the body

At the end of his speech, Amin asserts: “You have to love your brain and take care of it. Take care of him, and stay away from everything that might harm him.”
