Will there be snow at Christmas? This is the question that comes up every year in December and which, hoping for a big “yes”, makes young and old alike dream. Last week, based on Météo France forecasts, we had already provided the beginnings of an answer: snowflakes were expected to fall in the Alps and the Pyrenees from the start of the Christmas holidays, this Saturday, December 20. But we had not made any progress on the quantities expected in the different massifs.
A few days before the end-of-year holidays, we now have a more precise idea of the weather in the mountains for the coming days. Snowfall has already returned this Tuesday, December 16 in the southern Alps. Thanks to a Mediterranean episode, precipitation is abundant in the ski resorts of the Alpes-Maritimes such as Auron or Isola 2000.
From the Alps to the Pyrenees, the rest of the week promises to be much calmer until the weekend of December 20 and 21. Perfect timing: snowfall will arrive in the mountains at the same time as vacationers. But with significant differences between the massifs. We take stock of the forecasts.
