The awards season comes to an end in the middle of March: the night of the March 16in Spain, Movistar Plus+ broadcast a Oscar gala which will begin at two and will last several hours: it is always promised that it will be the shortest edition and they always manage to fool us. This ceremony marks the 98th celebration of the Oscars and Conan O’Brien repeats like his presenter.
Los Angeles and its legendary Dolby Theater host the awards ceremony: specifically, they will be 24 statuettes awardedwith the inclusion, for the first time, of an award for best casting direction. However, the biggest prizes are awarded at the end and one of them is the Oscar for best leading actorwith two clear candidates. Or maybe not. It may be, like the counterpart in best actress, with Jessie Buckley, a closed category. We tell you who are the five nominees.
Timothée Chalamet by ‘Marty Supreme’
Table of Contents
You probably don’t need to continue reading the other names because this is the one most likely to have been written on the inside of the winning envelope. Timothée Chalamet has been nominated twice beforethe first of them with Call me by your name and the next one, last year, for A complete unknown. Repeat not only nomination, but gender: Marty Supreme is another biopic, only this time the protagonist is not Bob Dylan but a table tennis player that no one had heard of. But any path is good if it leads to the Oscar.
Marty Supreme It has been in theaters since January 30.
Ethan Hawke por ‘Blue Moon‘
Another biopic and another nomination for Ethan Hawke, who already has fivetwo of them as co-writer of before sunset y before nightfall. Unlike Chalamet, who has not hidden his discomfort at not having already won an award, Ethan Hawke (who also does not have a Golden Globe) seems not to need one. Or at least it’s more discreet. His career speaks for itself and, when he is finally awarded it (which will not happen due to his biopic of the famous lyricist Lorenz Hart), it will be the Academy that pays off a debt and, ultimately, wins.
Blue Moon can be seen on Prime Video.
Michael B. Jordan for ‘The Sinners’
Surviving the streets of Baltimore is not easy. His character in The Wire I didn’t do it, but yes Michael B. Jordanthe actor who plays him, and who debuts at the Oscars with its first nomination. Nomination that he will have to share with his fictional twin brother in The sinners, and that he will have celebrated, appropriately, with good music.
The sinners can be seen on HBO Max and Movistar Plus+.
Wagner Moura for ‘Secret Agent’
The Oscars like Brazil more and more. Last year, the Brazilian I’m still here scored a surprise victory at the international Oscar after, yes, a campaign of Emilia Perez (the favorite for the award) which was more of a continuous self-shooting at the knees. Secret agent is, along with sentimental lifethe strongest candidate internationally, which confirms that Wagner Moura premieres with a nomination.
secret agent It has been in theaters since February 20.
Leonardo DiCaprio for ‘One Battle After Another’
There is something in the air that tells us that it will not happen. That Leonardo DiCaprio will not win his second Oscar. In some way difficult to explain, by now we would already know if it were like that. His memorable performance as a stoned revolutionary will continue to be remembered when you forget who won what in what year, but the awards race so far seems to keep him away from another statuette. As Bob would say: “Life, man!”
One battle after another can be seen on HBO Max and Movistar Plus+.
