by Archynetys News Desk

Police are investigating two suspected homicides in Berlin. Two men were found dead on Saturday in the Pankow and Marzahn-Hellersdorf districts, a spokesman for the authority told Tagesspiegel.

In the early hours of the morning, a 44-year-old was discovered dead in a van on Gustav-Adolf-Straße in the Weißensee district of Pankow. According to initial investigations, an unknown perpetrator drove a vehicle next to the parked van and fired several shots, the spokesman said.

The 44-year-old died on site and attempts at resuscitation by the emergency services were unsuccessful. There is currently no trace of the perpetrator. The spokesman did not have a description of the getaway vehicle. The police are currently securing evidence on site. The operation has been running since shortly after six o’clock.

Increased shootings by Turkish gangs

According to police, the dead man was a Turkish citizen. There has been an increasing number of shots being fired in Berlin for around a year now – the evidence often leads to Turkish gangs. The background is usually protection money demands or gang rivalries.

A few hours before the shooting in Weißensee, a 21-year-old was found lifeless in an apartment in an apartment building in Mahlsdorf. The emergency services were called to Hultschiner Damm around 1:20 a.m., as the police and public prosecutor’s office jointly announced.

The suspect should be brought before a judge

An emergency doctor was only able to determine the death of the 21-year-old on site, it said. The man had multiple stab wounds. The homicide squad is investigating the case.

According to authorities, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested on the street in front of the apartment. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Sunday.

An employee of the Berlin police situation center initially spoke of “intra-family disputes”. A spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office was unable to comment on the background.

The spokesman said that there is currently no connection between the cases in Mahlsdorf and Weißensee. The investigation is ongoing.
