The United States Embassy in Morocco has published Benjamin Ziff‘s first official declaration on its Facebook page since taking office as US manager. This message, accompanied by images of a reception held in Rabat, underlines the common will of Washington and Rabat to strengthen a bilateral relationship presented as “the oldest friendship in America”.
“The Business Officer Ben Ziff celebrated the continuation of the oldest friendship in America by spending an evening with friends and partners to reaffirm our common commitment to the bilateral relationship between the United States and Morocco,” said the American diplomatic representation. Among the present personalities were Mostafa Terrab, director general of the Cherifian Phosphates Office (OCP), whose participation illustrates the economic and strategic weight of the partnership.
Benjamin Ziff succeeds Aimée Cutrona, who had assured the interim after the departure of Puneet Talwar, intervened a few days before the investiture of Donald Trump. If the American president appointed Richard Buchan III as a new ambassador, the latter has not yet taken office, letting Ziff occupy the diplomatic scene while waiting for his official arrival.

Entering the State Department in 1988, Ziff multiplied assignments abroad: Australia, Israel, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Italy, Iraq, Spain, United Kingdom and Cuba. He was a deputy head of mission in Bogota, Madrid and London, and managed several regional offices of the State Department, including those responsible for Central and South America and the Caribbean.
His experienced profile, marked by the management of complex files, is a continuation of a strategic partnership that Washington considers central in its regional policy in the Maghreb and Africa.
